The 2017/18 sugar beet campaign has started on the 24 of July with the first delivery to Minerbio plant. After the re-opening of San Quirico, in the current market year, in Italy, there are 3 active sugar factories and an amount of 37,000 ha allocated for sugar beet production.
Joint CIBE-CEFS-EFFAT response to UNICA (Brazilian Sugarcane Industry Association) related to EU-Mercosur negotiations.
CIBE welcomes the initiative by Commissioner P. Hogan to set up a Sugar Market Observatory. Ahead of the observatory’s kick-off meeting, CIBE would like to reiterate its position regarding the transparency on the EU sugar market post-2017.
EU sugar and renewable ethanol producers, sugar beet farmers, and workers call for no concessions on sugar and ethanol in the context of the EU-Mercosur trade negotiations.
At their annual General Assembly today in Newmarket, UK, European beet growers discussed the extremely challenging context they have to cope with and the higher risks they have to face as from this marketing year.

In October 2013, the European beet growers (CIBE), sugar producers (CEFS) and trade unions of the food and agriculture sector (EFFAT) have formalised a landmark agreement to jointly highlight and report on representative Good Practices of sustainable production of beet sugar in the EU.
CIBE takes part in the AgroCycle project, a Sino-EU collaborative research venture, funded by the European Commission under its Horizon 2020 programme to create a protocol for the implementation of the 'circular economy' across the agri-food sector.
