JOINT PRESS RELEASE: CIBE, CEFS, COPA-COGECA AND EFFAT STRONGLY WARN THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION TO REJECT ANY ATTEMPT TO INCLUDE SUGAR IN THE REVISED TRADE OFFER TO MERCOSUR

This statement comes as the EU plans to modify its market access offer to Mercosur to include sensitive products, among them sugar, during the next round of trade talks between 4 and 10 December.

PRESS RELEASE - EUROPEAN SUGAR BEET GROWERS WARN THAT THEIR PRODUCTIVITY AND SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES ARE UNDER THREAT

 

At their annual Technical and Reception Control Committee today in Chantilly, France, European beet growers discussed various issues related to growing, harvesting and delivering beet to the sugar factory. Fundamental changes are at work with the end of quotas and with the possibilities of using of plant protection products that deeply impact the way farmers grow and deliver their beet.

 
In October 2013, the  European Beet Growers  (CIBE), sugar producers  (CEFS)  and trade unions  of the  food and  agriculture  sector  (EFFAT)  have  formalised  a  landmark  agreement  to  jointly  highlight and report on  representative  Good Practices of  sustainable production of beet sugar in the EU.

CIBE takes part in the AgroCycle project, a Sino-EU collaborative research venture, funded by the European Commission under its Horizon 2020 programme to create a protocol for the implementation of the 'circular economy' across the agri-food sector.

BEET EUROPE / BETTERAVENIR 2016: MOYVILLERS, OISE REGION (FRANCE)

The small town of Moyvillers, in the Oise, was, for two days, on the 26th and 27th of October 2016, the capital of the sugar beet industry thanks to Betteravenir 2016, the European sugar beet field exhibition organized by the French Sugar beet Institute (ITB) and the Royal Belgium Institute for Sugar beet (IRBAB).

ANB - STARTING OF THE SUGAR BEET CAMPAIGN IN ITALY

The 2017/18 sugar beet campaign has started on the 24 of July with the first delivery to Minerbio plant. After the re-opening of San Quirico, in the current market year, in Italy, there are 3 active sugar factories and an amount of 37,000 ha allocated for sugar beet production.

 

 

The 300,00 sugar beet growers represented by CIBE produce on average just under 20 million tonnes of white sugar per year from around 2 million hectares, intended mainly for the 600 million  inhabitants of the CIBE member countries. 

 

Mission

Throughtout the year, CIBE organise meetings, such as General Assembly or Congress which allow to share information between its Members and discuss several topics.

 

CIBE's Staff also attends several external events.
